The Supreme Court refuses to reconsider its earlier decision in dismissing the multi million lawsuit filed by the El-Shifa Pharmaceutical Industries plaint in Sudan against the United States. The lawsuit was filed over President Clinton’s 1998 missile strikes in Sudan. The plant owners claim they were defamed, and lost valuable assets for which they were never compensated.
President Clinton authorized the missile strike in response to bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. Clinton said he believed the plant in Sudan was connected to Osama Bin Laden’s terrorist network, which was responsible for the attacks in Kenya and Tanzania.
The Court maintains that it cannot review President’s Clinton decision because it was a political one, outside of the Court’s scope.
