An Alabama Law Firm filed a class action lawsuit against Taco Bell for not using real beef in the tacos. According to the suit, the “seasoned beef” that Taco Bell uses in its tacos is only 36% meat, while the rest is comprised of water, wheat oats, cornstarch and other ingredients. The complaint accuses Taco Bell of false advertising and states that the meat does not meet the minimum requirements set by the USDA to be classified as “beef.”
Taco Bell is pushing back saying they plan to move forward and believe they will be successful. The fast-food chain also highlighted that all seasoning ingredients are listed on the website allowing customers to check for themselves.
The main question now is, do customers even care? If customers already know that fast food is highly processed and not completely natural, will they truly care about the technicalities of the ingredients? Taco Bell’s sales will answer this very question over the next few weeks.
