A 5 year-old-boy came to his pre-kindergarten with a loaded handgun. The pre-kindergarten teacher saw the gun fall out of the boy’s pocket. No one was hurt, and the boy did not threaten to hurt anyone. The boy told authorities he found the gun in her stepfather’s car on the way to school and grabbed it.
Police say the boy is an uncomplicating factor in this case; he is cooperating and is able to communicate well. Now authorities will investigate the adults who left the gun unattended, allowing the boy to pick it up and bring it to school. The boy could have hurt himself or other children, and the police investigation over the next few weeks will determine the extent to which social services will intervene.
