The new airport security scanners across United States scan your body as you go through security. The scanners can reveal intimate details about your body such as implants, piercing and prosthetics. Additionally, the scanners can reveal information about your health by showing your skin and what’s just underneath the surface. If you don’t think that’s intrusive, the machines can also tell is a man is circumcised or not, although they are not supposed to be able to identify this information.
Recently, a North Carolina cancer survivor says she had to show her prosthetic during a pat down. The woman said the TSA agent felt her breast and then requested to see the prosthetic breast. A TSA spokesperson stated that agents are not allowed to remove any prosthetics but are allowed to see and touch them.
Critics say the new scanners may be too intrusive and an infringement on our personal privacy. TSA is already facing numerous complaints by various organizations throughout the country. Some travelers have even dubbed TSA actions as “legal groping.” There has been significant public backlash regarding the new security measures, so it will be interesting to see how public concern will ultimately be balanced with security issues.
Security is necessary but you can find glaring interruptions with the performance of specific airports. Items accidently get placed in purses etcetera and not identified by screeners as well as other big mistakes that may cost us our lives! We now have politicians asking for restrictions on the amount of individuals that receive pat downs and scans, of which achieves nothing! It ought to be all or not any! It all seems to me that the old way was functioning, exactly why did they change it!
I’m less concerned about scans and more concerned about the “pat down”.
If you have to explain to your child what just happened, that’s a good sign it’s gone too far.
